Case Studies
Have a read below of some case studies from young people who have been on programme with PIP.
JW
When JW joined PIP, he was unsure about which industry he wanted to pursue as a career. He explained that he felt his English and maths skills were holding him back and recognised that improving these qualifications would be essential in helping him move closer to sustainable employment. At the time, he also described himself as someone who did not socialise much and tended to keep himself to himself, lacking confidence in group settings and often preferring to work independently.
From the beginning, however, JW showed himself to be a polite, respectful, and determined young man with a strong willingness to learn. Although naturally quiet, he quickly settled into the group and became a valued member who built a supportive and comfortable environment together. As his confidence grew, he became more engaged with both staff and peers, while remaining focused and committed to achieving his goals. He attended the skills shed and tried his hand at plastering and painting and decorating. He also showed his proficiency at darts during break times winning most of his matches
JW’s dedication and consistent effort have led to significant progress throughout his time on the programme. His determination enabled him to successfully complete his Employability Level 1 qualification, as well as achieve both his Level 2 English and Level 2 Maths qualifications. These were important milestones for JW, and he took great pride in the progress he had made over the duration of the course. Successfully gaining these qualifications has not only improved his employment prospects but has also helped to build his self-confidence and independence.
In addition to his academic achievements, JW has taken positive steps towards his future career by starting driving lessons in preparation for a new role he has secured as a driver’s mate with a local company. This job opportunity represents an excellent outcome for JW and reflects the hard work and commitment he has shown throughout his journey at PIP. He has achieved the goals he set for himself when he first joined the programme and is now moving forward with greater confidence, valuable qualifications, and a clear pathway into employment.
GB
GB is 18 years old and currently in his second year at college with our service. He has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) due to ADHD, mild Tourette’s syndrome, and epilepsy, all of which impact his learning and daily life.
GB is studying Personal and Social Development (PSD) at Level 1 and is working at Entry Level 2 for English. His programme is tailored to support both his academic progress and personal development needs.
GB is a very active, hands-on learner who thrives when learning through practical activities. He enjoys making and fixing things and benefits from being able to use his energy positively to complete tasks, which supports his engagement and motivation.
GB receives 1-to-1 support from a tutor in class who helps to break work down into manageable steps to improve his understanding. His tutor is trained in epilepsy awareness and first aid, ensuring he is supported safely and effectively while learning.
GB’s strengths include being reliable, friendly, and kind to others. He has a great sense of humour and consistently tries his best in all activities. However, he does find it challenging to remain focused for long periods and struggles with written work.
GB has successfully sat and passed his Entry Level 2 Speaking and Listening, Reading, and Writing qualifications. These achievements have helped him build confidence and develop a better understanding of social situations.
GB’s future plans are to move towards supported employment and, with ongoing support, to develop the skills needed to manage his health conditions more independently.
GB has also achieved Student of the Month from Riverside College.
